Sports and Family by Amanda - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

High school is what you make it to be. It can be one of the best times of your life or the worst. For me I loved it, but if I could of known what I know now, I would have done some things different.

If your an athlete like I was, figure out what you want to do with your ability in the future. If you want to play a college sport? Improve your game, not just your ability to play, but your ability to be a teammate, have good physical strength, and health. Physical strength and health will limit your chances in getting an injury.

My senior year I was looking for a basketball scholarship for a division 1 school. I had the physical strength, I was a good teammate, but I didn't have good health. I put on a lot of weight and my second game into my senior year I was playing great. I had 8 points in the first 4 minutes of the game and ended up tearing my ACL. I learned a lot from this and it took me a while and I learned that everything isn't about basketball. Before I thought I was going to die because college basketball was out of my future. From this I changed the person who I was before and became a better daughter, sister, and teammate. If I would have known what I know now, I would have changed my eating habits and my morals a long time ago and maybe now I would be playing college basketball at a division 1 college with the support of my family.

Never forget your family because they will be there for you when your playing college ball or if you are injured on the sidelines. You don't have to figure out exactly what your future job will be but get your ducks in a row and start becoming the person you want to be. I ended up doing just that and now I am healthy, athletic, and family oriented. I became ready for anything that got in my way whether it was a basketball game, a 5K, or choosing something over a family event. My family is the biggest thing in my life and they are always there for me. Get your ducks in a row and become a better person than who you are now.
