My senior quote that I actually had with my senior photo back in 2010 versus the one I wish I put are two totally different beasts. Back in 2010 I was a carefree almost borderline irresponsible teenager with no worldly experience. I had no concept of the future adult responsibilities that lay in wait, the quote I chose at the time was important to me then and still rings true today but if I could go back knowing what I know now I'd change my quote.

My quote at the time was something my dad would tell me all the time when it came to boys and fledgling relationships. He would tell me, "Amanda, before you can ever love anyone else, you have to love yourself. Because if you don't love yourself how can you love anyone else?" I decided this was to be my senior quote, and so it was, at the time I was quite pleased with myself. At the time that's exactly what I needed to hear, as a teen girl I was thoroughly obsessed with my boyfriend, unfortunately the relationship I was in became a toxic one and ended quite abruptly. It was then when my dad's advice came into play, but as the years came to pass though it was still important and valid advice I needed guidance in a new way.

Though in the same vein of caring and appreciating oneself, the next chunk of good advice to come my way was this; "You and you alone have the power to change the course of your life, so stop getting in your own way and do what I know what you can do and excel. Aspire to be more than you are now, do that every day and never stop." This advice was given to me from a resident formerly under my care, whom I loved and cared for immensely, if I could go back in time I would have this be my senior quote, hands down not a doubt in my mind.

This advice has stuck with me ever since my resident laid it down for me, and ever since then I push myself to my limits and try to be a better me every day. If i had known then what i know now I could've saved myself alot of time and prevented myself from making self defeating decisions and let myself be manipulated by those who didn't have my best interests in mind. Though some unfortunate situations have come my way since that advice was given to me I have done everything i can do to not only accept the good things as well as the bad with grace, and to look for the silver linings in the negative. All in all, i still agree with my original quote, but i would have preferred the one i had been given now.

I believe my current quote helps me find my inner strength and the willpower to make the best decisions for me. I truly feel that since then I have given every day my all, and I feel that shows people how dedicated I am. I feel that I have been more driven, and have accomplished so much since then, and ii hope that shows those around me how willing I am to do whatever it take to help myself grow as not only a person, but also a medical professional.

Thank you so much for your time and consideration in reading my application.
