Why Study Abroad?
Studying abroad has been getting more popular over the years. Five percent of American college students have not studied abroad as of last year—lowering the percentage by three percent. Some people may not think abroad would be for them because they don’t have the money, not important, doesn’t have relevance to what they want to do for a career, nervous, or just don’t want to leave their friends and family. I was one of the students who thought it wasn’t important enough to do, until I looked more into it. Abroad should be required to study for college students for many reasons.
Why study abroad? There are tons of reasons why you should! The main reason why you should is that you can see the world. You can expand your knowledge by doing this—and have a blast doing it. You learn new languages, try new things, learn about cultures, and so much more. College is the time of everyone’s life, where you are trying to find out who you are and what you like, so studying abroad can help you find what you’re looking for in life. You may even find new things that interest you, that you didn’t know was possible.
A lot of graduate schools are more interested in you if you have studied abroad. You also have a better chance at getting a job. You meet so many people who can be your life-long friends. The best time to do it is while you’re in college since you most likely don’t have a full-time job—so, why not?
