Well-Rounded Employee by Alyssa - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
There is nothing more important to have in today’s world than an education. There is a great deal of competition in the work force, and it is critical to have a resume that stands out from the others. Opportunities are opened up when you further your education too because of the support system that’s created and the relationships that are formed. Finally, it promotes personal development. Education forms a well-rounded person that has the full potential to succeed in life.
Available jobs are limited and you must have something impressive that sets you apart from the other applicants. A high school degree is no longer enough unless you want to work at the local diner for minimum wage. Many jobs require a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or even a degree more advanced. The education you receive can determine whether you have a job or a career. Though, in order to obtain a career, you must get the job you want first. Furthering your education can make your aspiring profession possible by getting you that beginner job.
You form many relationships in college with those who want to see you accomplish your goals. Your roommate becomes your sibling and will always be there for you. Your fellow classmates grow into your support system and help you through difficult classes. The professors teach you all that you need to know and have many connections. These friends and mentors you meet while getting your education will encourage you throughout life and give you confidence. The more you believe in yourself, the more opportunities appear because you trust that you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.
Education will reveal who you are and what your passions are. What you choose to study shows what you enjoy learning about. You find your strengths and use them to aid you in achieving your goal. Also, getting involved in the community during your studies will allow you to develop compassion and care for others. Learning about what you enjoy and how to have empathy for others will prepare you for the future career you will love and community interactions.
Furthering your education will prepare you for the rest of your life. Earning a degree opens up an entirely new door of job opportunities so that you can have a career and not just a job. The supportive relationships developed while getting your education will provide you with lifelong friends that give you the confidence to strive for whatever ambitious goal you set. Finally, while discovering what you enjoy learning about and how to have compassion for others, you will understand exactly what career you want to aim for and how to interact with people in your community. Education develops your personality, creates friends for life, and furthers your chance of getting your dream job.
