My plans for after high school by Alyssa - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
To Whom it May Concern,
My plans for after high school are to attend Central Lakes College- Brainerd. There I will be in the Dental Assisting program. My goals for dental assisting are to complete the program, while maintaining a GPA of 3.2 or higher. I have a goal of completing the program and getting a job in the dental field. If I enjoy being a dental assistant then I plan on attending St. Cloud State Technical & Community College in their Dental Hygienist program. In high school I excelled in Algebra. A goal for me in college is to improve my English and Science skills.
I am very excited to start the program as i think it will be a fun thing to do. I understand it will be stressful but I know I can do it. Unlike other people, I do not mind going to the dentist, nor have I ever, even as a young child. It sparked my interest when I started looking more into careers. I think it would be fun and keep me busy. I have good communication skills with people as I have been a waitress for about three years.
I have had braces twice. The first time I got them was in fourth grade, I had them until eighth grade. When I first got them I started with only four brackets on my top front teeth. I then had two more brackets added on the top. By the time it was time to get them off I had a full set on the top. It was when I got braces for the second time that I started to find an interest in dentistry. I wanted to go to college to be an orthodontist. When I looked into the career I found out that the orthodontist program is part of the dental assisting and dental hygienist programs.
My need for financial assistance is that I will be living in an apartment with a friend. My father will not be helping me. My mother also will not be helping me, as she has to focus on keeping up with her own bills as well. I will need to pay general housing bills as well as for food, shopping and when I want to go out and do something with friends. I want to be able to graduate college and not be in student debt. I will be having one, or two, jobs in college. I can not rely on FAFSA and scholarships to get a free ride through college. As much as I would like to, I know I am still going to have to work for what I want to be successful.
Thank You for taking your time in considering me to receive this scholarship,
