The biggest contribution to my community I have provided is my work at Kumon- Tutoring services. I started working for Kumon in the year 2021 after the worldwide pandemic. The education field took a major hit, especially for students who started their fundamental years of education during that time. Students either weren't being taught the way they should or had trouble fully understanding the information given over the computer. I decided to make it my goal that year to make a positive impact on my community. While being a tutor, I helped students 4-18 years old in low-income communities fully understand and grasp information that their educators would otherwise look over. This task proved tiresome at times but always was rewarding at the end when the child could teach the lesson themselves back to me.
While making a impact in my community, I noticed the world was slowly getting back to normal but my communities education was going downhill. Our schools were constantly having fights and making news headlines. The culture shock of this action caused my position at Kumon to become more important than every before. I noticed that majority of the older students who came to learn, were apart of the schools that were going downhill. Although their school communities were decreasing, their desire to learn was increasing. They enjoyed coming into Kumon everyday, being apart of a community that cared about learning and better our community. Working at Kumon is a action I still do today because of the major impact I see on how it betters my community.
