The struggles of Studying by Alysa - May 2016 Scholarship Essay

Studying in general could be a difficult challenge for most people, but studying for final exams can push people over the edge. There are many different studying methods that students are able to choose from. Note cards, re-reading passages, listening to certain music are some of the different strategies for studying.
For myself I recommend re writing notes or taking new ones for the chapters you need to study for your overwhelming final exam. When notetaking you want to make sure you are writing down the correct material. Is the material out of the book or out of the lecture? If its out of the book then it makes note taking much simpler but if the material is out of the lecture then you better make sure that you took detailed notes the day the lecture was given.
Make sure you find a quiet place to study and away from any loud noises or distractions. I also like to review my previous tests and quizzes making sure I know the material incase the same questions pop up on the final exam. When in a quiet place for studying I enjoy reading the text aloud to make the material fresh in my mind.
Over the years I have learned that taking breaks is okay. You never want to study the same subject for more than 20 minutes. You may get overwhelmed studying for more than 20 minutes per subject. I like to make sure I keep the same schedule. Wake up at the same time, Eat when I normally do and get plenty of sleep. I don’t like to stay up late and study because that only makes me exhausted when I wake up and I don’t have the amount of energy as I do if I get plenty of sleep.
Studying for me is one of the many things I struggled with being a freshman. Throughout the years I've learned many different was to study. I believe the most important advice I could give someone who struggles with studying is to get plenty of rest and make sure you schedule stays the same.
