What is the most important lesson you've learned from a teacher? by Alstian - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
What is a teacher? A teacher is an educated individual who gives someone knowledge on a subject or matter. Not all teachers work in a school, anyone can be a teacher. Teachers can be parents, friends, or mentors. The most important lesson I learned from a teacher came from my eleventh grade English teacher.
My school career was based off multiple choice tests and paperwork. Ms. Curtis, My English teacher, did things differently. She showed us the real world inside of school. We talked about real problem subject like racism and violence. We never received busy work, most of class was open discussions which caused us to interact, think, and discuss. This helped me tremendously in all of my other classes to think differently. She enjoyed her job and could have worked at a college to receive more money. However, she enjoyed what she did and stuck with it. Although she was my teacher for one year I still go to her for advice and help. She has had a great impact on my life and I appreciate everything she has done for me.
This was the first time I had to work for my grade and I received an A. I showed up to class early, I stayed late and studied hard. This resulted in me being the best student I could possibly be to all of my teachers. I saw passion in her job and it taught me whatever I decide to be in live, make sure it is something that I enjoy doing.
