Another Chance by Alondra - July 2023 Scholarship Essay

I failed almost all my classes in my first year of college. I dropped classes because I knew I wouldn't be able to pass, and yet that didn't help me with my other pass. I didn't have motivation. I would complete assignments at the last minute. I would skip class because I didn't feel like going. I only went to school to please my parents. My parents never finished high school. Going to college as a first-generation student was a lot of pressure, and that also caused me to not want to deal with the pressure. When I was at my lowest, I asked if it was alright for me to take a gap year, but in the end, they said no. Although I didn't want to continue school at that point, I tried to pass my classes for the spring semester. I had two types and passed one of them.
After talking to friends, they have helped me realize that I have what it takes to succeed. I have decided to start fresh at a new school and start slowly. I have figured out which classes I need in order to get my associate's degree and have set a schedule so I have time to do school work and also go to work to help pay bills. I want to become a person who can handle my problems and deal with the consequences, knowing I can do better next time. I believe I have done the proper research that can help me put my plans into action. I have started using a planner that has been helping me manage my time better. I have decided to take school slowly so that I can build up my confidence in school even more.
