What is the purpose of an education? by Allyssa - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
Through my life, college has always been the holy grail. It is what most high school students strive for. My parents didn’t go to college. My mother has always been a stay-at-home mom, and my father works two jobs to keep us afloat. To be 100% honest, I would have a hard time working in a manual field as my dad does.
College would give the chance to better myself. And for someone who thinks college is a waste of time and money, I would ask them if they wanted to climb the ladder of life. You can always strive to be better, stronger, and more educated then you were yesterday. Their money would be well spent, because in the long run, a GED or high school diploma is not going to get you farther than earning minimum wage.
Like Wiz Khalifa said “Work hard, play hard.” I agree if you work hard you can afford the little luxuries in life. College won't be easy but having a higher education will benefit me in the long run. I will be able to have the things in life I want. I will also be able to be comfortable. Being a 1st generation college student is very important to me. I want to have the life i've never had. And thats the purpose of education.
