The Ideal Classroom by Allyssa - October 2014 Scholarship Essay

Throughout the years’ of one’s schooling, many different classroom environments and interactions will take place. Some that one may like, while others dislike. Along with some that one dislikes, while others like. Classroom environments can have a huge impact on a child's life and need to be taken seriously. The classroom is where learning and growing should take place. The ideal classroom environment would be one where bullying is non-existent, one where teaching and tutoring is crucially most important, and one where help felt like an honor and privilege instead of a chore.

One of the most definite needs for a well-rounded classroom environment is that in which bullying does not exist. According to the article, “11 Facts About Bullying”, over 3.2 million students have experienced the horrific depths of bullying. Along with this, the article states, “1 in 4 teachers see nothing wrong with bullying and will only intervene 4% of the time”. Bullying is overseen, let by, and neglected too much within the school classrooms. Bullying not only hurts and lowers the self-esteem of the one affected, but also takes away from their learning within the classroom. Without bullying, the goal and focus of learning and interacting in class has the potential to exceed unlike ever before. The teachers and other students must stand up to the bullying around them and put a stop to it.

An ideal classroom setting would be one where teaching and tutoring is crucially most important. In order to grow and learn in the classroom, one must be taught. Often nowadays, meaningless movies are shown and helpless word puzzles are given. It is as if teaching has became less of must and more of a choice. When the teacher does teach in the classroom, it needs to be stressed that extra help and tutoring is available if further assistance is needed. The students of which the teacher is teaching, is to be the generation after they are gone; therefore, they need to be properly taught the things they need to be taught. If the students feel like their teacher is not taking their class and teaching seriously and importantly, then they will not either. Additionally, the students want to feel the teacher’s desire to teach them. Teaching and tutoring within the classroom needs to be at the highest potential possible.

A teacher’s ability to teach should be taken upon as an honor and privilege instead of a chore. In addition, the student’s ability to learn should be held at the same standard. More times the not, a student will not ask for extra help from a teacher because of the expression the teacher gives that they do not have time or desire. A student sometimes can also be hesitant to ask for help because it seems like an output on the teacher to help in further understanding. This must be held to a stop immediately because students deserve to receive any extra help they need without the resistance of asking. Teachers are at school and teaching because that is what they get paid to do, so they need to follow through and provide the help needed. Students should not feel like a bother to ask for extra assistance in something they did not understand. Teachers should own their knowledge and gift of being able to teach students. The students and their development of understanding need to be put first in all circumstances.

To further succeed in students’ educations, things such as: bullying, neglect of teaching, and lack of support in understanding must be put to an utter end. Students should be able to go to school and learn without the fear of bullying, without watching useless movies, and without feeling like a bother to their teachers. An ideal classroom is not impossible to obtain, but it must be wanted and worked for in order to be received.
