Better Student, Better Me. by Allyson - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
Traditionally, I have never been one for the usual run-of-the-mill New Years resolutions. I believe that if you really want something, you will strive for it all of the time, regardless of when it takes place in the year. Unfortunately for most of the New Years resolutions, they die off come January 5th. However, I have taken great interest in making sure my “resolution” to prioritize my time more strategically survives the entire year.
With college approaching quickly, the last few months of my senior year has been dedicated to filling and sending both applications and scholarships. No one really prepares you for the time consumption that both require. Being able to juggle homework, college needs, and work became an increasingly difficult thing for me to do. So, I decided to form a schedule that would allot a certain amount of time for each task equally. Each day I would create a goal that I wished to attain, (which later on became one application completed a day). Using the schedule easily allowed for me to attend to each of the factors that required my attention.
When it comes to my schooling, I have historically been horrible with my time management. That is why this year, I have made a conscious effort to focus more on how much time I put into my homework and classwork. When I get home from school, I try and limit myself from any sort of electronics until my homework is completed. Tactics such as that entice me to finish my homework quicker and allows for time to study.
Although I do not traditionally partake in the resolution hype, I genuinely have put in time and effort into my time management skills. Knowing that I have grown in my ability to manage my time wisely makes me extremely confident for both my future in college, but also in my career.
