The Importance of Leadership by Allison - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Leadership skills are seen throughout the school setting and extend past the walls of the classroom. Even though they are not always shown, it is always beneficial to have them. With only half of college student graduating in four years, those students needed to possess qualities to outshine their peers; one attribute can be leadership. Despite the major, sport, and college, the need for leadership skills are needed to succeed in the future
In any major, there will always be a class where the professor requires a student to work in groups. A lot of them like to see a student in a group setting. In that group, someone always needs to take charge. Without a leader, nothing would get done, the work would lack punctuality, and the grade would suffer. Leadership, in this case, would benefit the whole group, as well as the particular student. Being a leader, in events like this, allow for further advancements in the classroom and in their major.
In sports, there always has to be a leader on the court/field. Without a leader, the whole team suffers tremendously. From personal encounters in volleyball, my team would slowly start losing points without a leader on the court. The team gets down on themselves and the game ends up being a lost just because there is not a leader. If there were more leaders on sports teams, success would come easier. Instead of one person influencing a team, now there are ten people that can lead the team to victory. This betters the players, and the coaches now have a better team because of it.
No matter the college, there will always be people striving to become better than you. Rather it be high school or college, there is always a sense of competition. Leadership can overturn the competition in ones favor, but despite the college, sport, or major, leadership can make or break someone. The need for leadership is becoming crucial with tougher job market. The need for little things, like leadership, is becoming more and more valuable. A college diploma is becoming so common that people need stronger attributes: such as leadership.
