Betty Aint't Food Network by Allison - June 2019 Scholarship Essay
Never in my life have a I met a teacher so dedicated to her work and helping her students succeed. My culinary arts instructor has always been my go to person, whether its personal, professional, or school problems. She's taught me to put my whole heart into my work, and never give up when I have people trying to hold me back and keep me from being successful. It is because of her and her kindness I am on the path I am today, not because she babied me. But because she pushed me, stepped back and let me succeed on my own.
Because of her, I have a new passion for helping people. Thanks to my passion I was able to start my own scholarship as a senior project, based at the very place I fell in love with cooking. I dream to one day help as many students as Betty did. With my senior project I will help students for years to come.
Starting a scholarship wasn't easy.I was ignored, told I'd never make it happen, and discouraged not only by people in my community and by school officials. Betty never gave up on me, and thanks to that I never gave up. I look at challenges differently now, im not afraid to work alone and stand my ground when people are trying to beat me down. I put my whole heart into helping people just like Betty. Now thanks to Betty and my hard work, I can now proudly award my scholarship of $1000 to a student.
When school gets tough I won't give up, I won't cave, Ill stand strong and remember how hard I worked to get where I am and who helped me along the way. All the lessons I learned from Betty will stick with me. I am lucky to have her as a teacher, but more importantly as a friend.
