Future college experience by Allison - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

There are many things I will be thankful for during my college experience, but I think the most important thing will be learning how to think for myself. Now days, it feels like many parents put thoughts in their kids head without even realizing they're doing that. Kids look up to their parents, so most often those kids will have the same opinions about certain topics.
There are many topics I feel a certain way about because that's the way my parents think about those topics. If I was raised in a different home, I might think differently about those topics than I do now.
When I'm in college, I won't have people telling me what to do and think, so it will help me form my own thoughts and ideas.
Also, I will be around a wide variety of people and cultures, so I will be able to see many sides to an issue and have my own opinion about something rather than what my parents think and tell me.
I think college will be very beneficial to me because thinking on my own is something our culture doesn't really do enough of and I would like to be able to do that better.
