Would you like to drive, or should I? by Allisha - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
One of the main keys to success in college is the ability to drive and motivate yourself. You no longer are under the guidance of your parents or high school teachers, they are not there to remind you to finish your homework or pick up your clothes. They are not even there to tell you to eat a healthy dinner rather than potato chips. You have to become your own person and find your own success. You have to stop procrastinating and thinking that someone else will help you finish whatever needs to be done. It is your chance to step up and finally show the world what you have been telling your parents all along, that you can do it yourself and that you don’t need them hovering over you every minute of every day. The ability to motivate yourself will not only take you far in college, but will also help you to succeed in life and in your future career. Employers are always looking for someone that they don’t have to micromanage, someone that they can trust to get the job done and done correctly.
It may not always be fun to choose studying over hanging out with friends or over a Netflix marathon, but it is what you have to do in order to succeed. Be motivated to crack open a textbook and give it 110%. Be the person that stays in your room getting smart rather than going out and being dumb. It will pay off when you are the one that has graduated with honors and has a great job. Then you can have fun!
