Leaders are Learners by Allisa - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Whatever you do in your life, you should always be learning. College will be no exception. Throughout my high school career I utlized the leadership skills I attained and acquired on the softball diamond and through Student Government. I had to adapt to the situations around me to ensure that the team I lead and the committee I was in charge of would be successful.
This means that you look at your teams and teammates strengths and areas of needed improvement and you organize your meetings and practices to ensure that the strengths are maximized and that your weaknesses are being improved. This happens when you listen as a leader to your teammates and committee members needs and ideas and then organize these into a plan to ensure success for all.
What does this have to do with college you ask? As in high school, I will continue to listen to my advisors, listen to the advice of my professors and implement an academic plan of courses that meet the goals that I have set for my life. I will organize my games, practice times and my study time to ensure I can complete all me task, workouts and assignments in a timely and effective manner.
If these skills and characteristics are not implemented and followed, I would not be able to meet my goals and fail miserably. I remember a saying my father would tell me often, "if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail." I will continue to serve my community, campus and church with the leadership that has been blessed to me and I will continue to learn and lead.
