Made for Business by Alina - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

“What do you want to be when you grow up?”. This is the question we all get asked throughout our years in school. When we consider it, we are all at such a young age to be able to decide what we want to do for the rest of our lives. Most people choose a job based on personal interest or satisfaction. Of course, an 8-year-old will want to be a firefighter because it sounds so cool, but in a couple of years, they will realize they are not interested in that kind of work. Personally, at my age, I have considered what I want to be when I grow up through the skills and experiences I have had throughout my life.

I always knew I wanted to go into the business field. Medical was not an option, I do not react to blood, bones, or anything like that fairly well. Education is not my thing either. I enjoy being with kids, but not that much. So, then I considered business. My mom has a job in the business field, so I was able to receive excellent insight into what a career in business looked like. I would say I share very similar traits with my mom. We are both perfectionists, we like things in a certain order and enjoy following and making schedules. We are both very organized and independent as well. Considering how well my mom excels at her job, I felt a business career would suit me well.

In addition to the traits I share with my mom, as I did further research on business careers, I found that my personality fits perfectly. Organization, planning, controlling, and implementing are some of the most used traits in the business world. I tend to use all of these in my daily life, whether that is at school, work, or even home. I feel very confident choosing business as my major because it involves many of my interests and attributes that I use every day. I hope that by majoring in business, I will be able to obtain a career that I enjoy and am good at.

Choosing business as my major may seem cliche or boring, as there are so many exciting majors out there to choose from. When I chose my major, I chose the outline for my life after college. Though it might not be the most exciting topic, I know that this major will allow me to put my qualities to use and I will be able to live my life doing a job that I enjoy.
