Force Doesn't Count by Alicia - July 2019 Scholarship Essay
When most people get an education, some do it simply because they feel like they have to. Whether it's for a degree for a specific career, or for acknowledgement, it's seems like they're forcing themselves to do it. Meanwhile, other people do it because they WANT to learn. They constantly seek new knowledge and ask questions, and those people are the ones who have a true passion for education.
Most people who force themselves to get an education don't remember the contents they learned after being tested on it, because they didn't learn it. Instead, they memorized it up until being tested for it. Then they discard that knowledge for the new batch of information for the following test. These people will get drained and actually envy school and any kind of learning environment, because they're forcing themselves to do it. When you force yourself to do something, you tend to want to stay away from it, because it brings no joy to you. But when you have a passion for education, it's a whole new perspective.
Those who have a passion for learning enjoy the new knowledge laid in front of them. They study and seek information on subjects they enjoy, and ask questions for unanswered topics. Sure, there's going to be a few bumps in the road, but they won't let that stop them. If they enjoy it, they will keep going. That's the difference between "passion" and "force", motivation.
For me, having a passion for education is crucial. That's why I chose a profession that I enjoy and find interesting, while also paying well (depending on the type). It'll keep me wanting to learn more, and I'll actually enjoy my career. I know it's going to be a lot of work, that I've accepted. But once it's over and done with, it'll be worth it in the end.
