Good Grades Lead to a Good Life by Alexus - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
As I embark on the next stage of my academic journey at the University of West Florida, I often systematically reflect upon what motivates me toward my academic pursuits and how I remain steely-eyed on my objective. Rooted in my conviction is the firm belief that "good grades lead to a good life." This life mantra not only fuels my daily inspiration but is also the very foundation that keeps me focused in my studies.
I am Alexus Pham, an ardent rising freshman with a keen focus on Psychology. I am motivated by an insatiable drive to learn and grow intellectually. I am optimistic about the future, committed to making positive changes, and determined to overcome any hurdle that comes my way.
Being of Asian and White ethnicity, I am exposed to the virtues of diligence, perseverance, and the emphasis on educational attainment from a young age. These virtues have significantly shaped my character and have fostered in me an unwavering commitment towards my academic goals.
I have found that a significant motivator is stress—more specifically, the desire to avoid its negative connotations, particularly regarding grades. In contrast to the stereotypical understanding, for me, stress is not necessarily a bad thing but rather a powerful driver. Moreover, my passion for the subject matter aids in this mitigation of stress. As I delve deeper into the exciting world of psychology, my intrigue and passion for the subject only grow, anchoring me and keeping me motivated and focused.
Another crucial part of staying driven is learning in a manner that appeals most to my learning style. Preferring solitary learning, I've discovered the value in critical reading, note-taking, and effectively immersing myself in textbooks rather than attending live lectures. This personalized learning style facilitates a deeper comprehension of concepts, allowing them to be truly internalized, which significantly improves my academic performance.
Likewise, I do not shy away from embracing caffeinated beverages. For me, they serve as a momentary energy booster and a gentle reminder to stay focused and energized, especially during those late-night study sessions.
In conclusion, while the road to attaining academic goals is often fraught with challenges, a clear understanding of what motivates me serves as a compass guiding me through the labyrinth of academic demands. My motivation stems from the belief that good grades lead to a good life, my passion for the subject, and my desire to overcome stress. My method of staying focused involves a combination of adapting my learning style and the occasional caffeine fix. Armed with these strategies, I am optimistic, excited, and ready to continue my academic journey towards earning my Psychology major at the University of West Florida.
