On the track for success by Alexis - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
New Year's resolutions are tricky. You say, “I’m going to work out more”, or “I’m going to eat healthier”, and you’re classified as cliche and your friends start taking bets on how long it will last. I have made some off the wall resolutions in the past, dress nicer, drink more water, wash my face more often. And while these were all very practical, they would never necessarily affect my education. Which is crazy, I mean you would think that being students, we would all want to better ourselves in the classroom as much as possible. But more often than not, I think most students consider New Years as a time to better themselves for the long run, and I guess education and long-term achievements don’t really click as correlated aspects as one is throwing confetti and watching the ball drop. That’s why this year, as a senior in high school, I have made the resolution to focus the next four months on my life after high school, that being college.
I have done my best, through the obligation of my verbal commitment, to numerous scholarships and to seek out as many opportunities for financial aid as possible. I do this with the hope that I will gain more funds so that I can afford my college education. It is difficult, considering college comes with a pretty steep price tag. But, through this New Year resolution to commit myself to my future, I have learned how many opportunities are out there if you look hard enough.
The benefits of this resolution are obvious. I am instilling in myself the habits of commitment and dedication to an education of a lifetime. These characteristics are sure to carry over to my school work, making me a driven student, working always towards my goals in life. My senior year is coming to a close, making me and my fellow students realize that the futures which we have dreamed about since we were younger are just around the corner. I hope that by the time I graduate, I will be on track to be able to afford college, putting myself in the position to have a life filled with prosper and achievement.
