Advice by Alexis - April 2021 Scholarship Essay
Advice is tricky. Many people will come to you and ask you for advice, and once you give it, they are on their way. This happens every day to thousands of people, and the sad part is, they seldom take their own advice. I have been blessed with multiple opportunities to give advice and get advice, but the truth is, I don’t know of any time that someone took the advice they gave me; or when I took my own advice.
I have been told this hundreds, if not thousands of times in my life, but I have never really applied it. If I could advise myself five years ago, I would have said:
“You are going to make some mistakes, and that is okay, but do not give up, live in the moment each and every day. Life gets hard, but you will make it through. You have a loving family that will always be there for you, if you let them. Embrace everything.”
My motto used to be “Yolo,” as in, You Only Live Once. But I don’t think that I followed that very well. I am a great student, have straight A’s and a 4.5 GPA, but there are many things that I haven’t experienced because I was too scared. I am now a senior in high school; I will be at college later this year. This is my chance to embrace life. I may not have been given that advice five years ago, and I may not have taken that advice, but I will take it now.
