Prepare the New Generation by Alexis - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

Being a high school Senior, I have had plenty of time to understand what my favorite subject is. In the beginning, I did not enjoy History class that much, but I’ve grown to love it. This is mostly because of the teachers I’ve had the privilege to study under. Understanding how society evolves and how different time periods link to each other hundreds of years apart fascinate me. If I was a teacher, I would teach United States History.

US History is the branch of social studies that I would want to teach because it focuses on the growth of the United States and the progression of societal views. I loved seeing how a conflict brought up in the early stages of the country come to fruition in the time we are in today. Teaching US History would allow me to inform the younger generations of the foundation of their home. I want to show them how the impact of the choices made two hundred years ago and how the choices made today can affect the future generations extending to the next two hundred years. I want to show students that they are next in line to rule the planet. The decisions they make both politically and socially will make a difference for many more years to come. Teaching them to be cautious and careful of those who make policies will make me feel better knowing that the future generation will be prepared for the deception political leaders and society will play on them.
