Being Compassionate for the Right People by Alexis - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
My teacher once told me to "never care for one that doesn't want it because they will not care for anything you may have to say." Every night I would always think about that quote and ask myself why would she have said that. She was a really good teacher before she passed away. I could go to her and talk to her about anything that I may have needed insight on. The day that she told me this was when a student was very distraught about something that happened and I wanted to try to figure out the problem and come out with a solution. When I went up to this person they immediately started to freak out and become angry because of the fact that I tried to help them. Since I am a very persistent person I tried and tried to get the person to speak up but they just wouldn't speak. once my teacher seen this she came up to me and told me that you can only care for someone to a certain extent.
From that day forward I realized that I am a very kindhearted person and most of the time not everyone wants to get help for their issues. Although I feel as though they may want my help or may want some advice I should never try to push them to wanting to get help. they choose whether they want it or not. I learned that being compassionate towards someone will not always go down the path that you expected it to go down. I will never forget this day because that was the day that I realized that I would never be the same when it came to being compassionate.
