Florence Nightingale by Alexandria - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I could have dinner with any historical figure it would be Florence Nightingale. Florence Nightingale was a very influential nurse. She cared for the poor and those who nobody else wanted to touch. She also became an advocate for improving medical conditions. Ms. Nightingale transformed the way hospitals worked. She ensured that clean medical equipment was always available to use, significantly decreasing the amount of infections in hospitals.
During her time period, the nursing profession was looked down upon. Nursing was not seen as a respectable career. Even though her parents disagreed with her wish to become a nurse and the negative appearance of nursing, she went ahead to fulfill her dream.
I would want to have dinner with Ms. Nightingale to discuss what nursing was like then. She was willing to do anything to help others. It is my goal to become a nurse that is willing to risk everything to help others. Also, Ms. Nightingale never accepted praise from anyone. Everybody wants to be acknowledged by others that they did something impressive. However, after the war, she continued her career to change the way hospitals worked. If it were not for her, who knows where the medical field would be today? Thanks to her, she cut down on infections which were killing people.
