At Your Fingertips by Alexandria - February 2018 Scholarship Essay
Describe one advance in technology that you believe will be an integral part of education in the year 2038. The world wide web is one easily accessible tool that the people of this world have. Technology and learning are both continually developing and go hand in hand. By 2038 I believe that the use of Ipads and other tablets will be able to help accommodate students and their learning environment.
Each person is unique and different from any other, so with that comes differences in learning styles as well. Aural, verbal, physical, and logical are the four different forms of learning styles. With each style, I believe there is a way that technology and the use of the tablet technology will be able to help students grow, and learn to their best possible abilities.
The first learning style is aural. Aural is the process of using auditory, sounds, and music to learn. Right now there are specialized classes that incorporate music into lessons to help children learn. For the sound side of aural learning, teachers lecturing is an example. The way I see technology helping is allowing students to learn along with music without having to be in a specialized classroom, they would be able to have the music and tools at their fingertips and with headphones, they wouldn't distract from how the other students learned.
The next style of learning is verbal. The verbal process is using words and language in both speech and writing to learn. I see this being used through an app and being able to speak what you want to express, as well as having the option to write and fill in information by taking it in and then having to express it back to the program.
The third style is physical, also known as kinesthetic. This style of learning uses touch and other senses to learn. I believe that technology would be most helpful to this style of learning because of interactive features and that it could all be on a touch screen which incorporates the need to touch to learn.
The final style of learning that would be impacted by the ability to use technology to enhance learning experiences is logical. This infers using mathematics, logic, and systems to learn. With technology, students could receive automated word problems and situational evidence to understand and logically solve problems.
In conclusion, the use of tablets and technology would be advantageous to target specific learning styles. I believe that advances in technology connected with the advanced knowledge of learning styles, we should be able to provide tests to help students know which style they are and then teachers will be able to help those students. Another way that these tablets could be helpful is the combination of learning styles, not all students are just one style, so being able to cater to the child so they can learn better would be better for the future. These students are our future and we must nurture them and give them tools so that they can succeed and continue to make our world better.
