Should extracurricular activities be required for high school graduation? Yes, I believe very strongly extracurricular activities should be required for high school graduation. Being involved in extracurricular activities promotes and develops several characteristics young adults need for success as they continue their post-high school education, enter the workforce, and/or choose a career in athletics.
Some activities such as academic clubs, service organizations and sport teams help students develop team-building skills, as well as effective communication skills. These skills can be used as stepping stones and building blocks for future successes.
Although it is important to know how to utilize independent work habits, and us individualism, many extracurricular activities introduce young adults to a variety of circumstances they may otherwise never experience. Guidance from counselors, class and club sponsors, program directors, and coaches help students learn how to effectively work together toward a common goal by joining different personalities in a variety of situations.
I believe extracurricular activities which emphasize service to others also helps mold amore productive and responsible member of society. This not only builds a person’s character; it also builds a stronger community. In turn, a strong community returns the favor by continuing the cycle of developing strong and involved members.
Another proven key to the success of many such activities is the element of fun. To continue to strive, develop and achieve; the recipe must include an element of fun. I believe adding gun allows for members to grow through the support and encouragement of others. This is a reality check for some people. It makes it okay to muss up, get up and try again.
It does not matter if the extracurricular activity is labeled as service, educational, or athletic. The combined result leads to a win/win situation- learning how to effectively lead and learning how to effectively follow.
