Recycling by Alexandra - May 2019 Scholarship Essay
If I was given a $10,000 grant, I would provide my community with a recycling program. Recycling is extremely important for the earth in a couple of different ways. It helps the natural environment and the people living on this earth. All in all, recycling provides many important benefits, however, the work to start a recycling program must be implemented. Somebody must take initiative. Many larger towns have achieved this, but what about the smaller towns? Numerous places in the world have never recycled.
Positive impacts that recycling has on the environment would be less harmful chemicals being released in the air, less pollution, and habitat destruction. Due to reusing materials, more energy would be saved and there would be less deforestation. Not only does recycling help the environment, but it benefits humans. There would be less waste going to landfills, less money used for making products from raw materials and there would be more materials for future generations.
Despite all the positive outcomes that recycling has on our earth, someone must set it up. They must get everyone in the community to agree and start an entire service to make it work. This is where the $10,000 would help me. It would be a process that first starts with building a team. The task would not be achievable alone. Then a plan must be created. For example, who is going to recycle, what is going to be recycled and how is the recycled material going to be collected? After a strong reasonable and achievable plan is created and everyone agrees, it would then be time to inform the community. Teach the community. We would set a date to begin and from there detect problems and fix them. No plan is going to be perfect there will be complications that have to be fixed.
With $10,000 I would work to get the city of Jamestown North Dakota a recycling service because it is a service that is important to me and the world.
