Impacting a Child in Need by Alexandra - June 2013 Scholarship Essay

Attending college for me means a chance to make a difference. All of my life I have wanted to make a difference in the lives of orphaned children. This passion started when I was only ten years old when I first learned of China's "One Child Policy." It has been from that moment on that I have realized that my passion is to help children worldwide find forever homes. I have tossed around several degree programs that could help me attain this goal of living over seas and working with children in need, and I have decided that for me, attaining an Elementary Education degree with an emphasis in English is the best way to achieve this. I would love to get the opportunity to work overseas in a country like China or India and teach English while working directly with these children I have always felt so drawn to. Attending college is the only way that I feel that I will be able to reach my personal goals and make a difference. This dream is something that I intend to bring to fruition; it is just a matter of when and where. While I am taking classes towards my Elementary Education degree, I am learning how to work with children, and this is such a rewarding experience. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to further my education and for the chance to chase my dreams. I hope that someday I will be able to make a difference in the life on a child.
