Leaning my blueprints by Alexander - April 2026 Scholarship Essay

One skill I hope to master in the next few years is investing. As I start thinking more about my future, I’ve realized how important it is to understand money and how to grow it. Investing is not just about making money—it’s about being smart with your choices, planning ahead, and creating a stable future. Right now, I am beginning to learn this skill in my economics class, where I am learning how money, markets, and businesses work.

Before taking economics, I didn’t really understand investing. I used to think it was only for adults or people who already had a lot of money. But now I know that anyone can learn it if they are willing to put in the time and effort. In class, I’ve learned about stocks, risk, and how money can grow over time. These lessons have helped me understand how small decisions today can make a big difference in the future. This has made me more interested in learning about investing and taking it seriously.

In the next few years, I plan to keep building this skill by learning as much as I can. First, I will continue to focus in my economics class and ask questions when I don’t understand something. I also plan to learn outside of school by watching videos, reading simple articles, and paying attention to what is happening in the economy. This will help me understand how investing works in real life, not just in class.

Another way I plan to improve is by practicing. Even if I start small, I want to try investing so I can learn from experience. I know I might make mistakes, but I understand that mistakes are part of learning. Over time, I want to get better at making smart choices and thinking about long-term goals instead of quick money. I also want to learn how to manage risk so I don’t lose money easily.

My background has also influenced my interest in investing. My dad owned a winery business in Mexico, and seeing that made me realize how important it is to understand money and how to manage it. Because of that, I want to build skills that will help me in the future, especially if I decide to run a business of my own one day. Learning how to invest will help me make better financial decisions and support myself and my family.

Overall, investing is a skill that takes time, patience, and effort to learn. Even though I am just getting started, I am determined to improve. By learning in my economics class, studying on my own, and practicing in real life, I believe I can become good at investing. This skill will help me build a better future and make smart decisions with my money for the rest of my life.
