My Educational Journey Thus Far by Alexa - August 2023 Scholarship Essay

As a homeschooler working two part-time jobs and attending PSEO at a local college, my daily agenda can be incredibly hectic! Time management and multitasking are two skills that have been crucial for my success. I am an upcoming senior enrolled in Seton Home Study School with a 4.0 GPA in a rigorous advanced curriculum. My courses have trained me to use critical thinking and reasoning to solve various problems, including difficult every-day-life situations. Furthermore, they have allowed me to study my faith deeply and develop a solid spiritual life.

As a full-time PSEO student at Hennepin Technical College in Minnesota, I am studying graphic design out of my love for visual communication, editorial work, and photography. I have really enjoyed my time there, especially the days when I can play around with the school’s giant printer!

PSEO and homeschooling clash with each other often, so it is critical that I know how to use my time wisely to get my work done promptly. This is not easy, but I have learned to make sacrifices for the sake of the “big picture.” Some days are nothing but completing assignments and counting how many cups of caffeine I drink to survive.

My most significant achievement in my educational journey thus far is my upcoming graduation in June of 2024 with a 4.0 GPA in an advanced homeschool curriculum and a technical college at seventeen years old. This will support my future goals by laying a foundation of valuable skills in various challenging subjects and allowing me to pursue my dream of becoming a graphic designer. Homeschooling has also given me the time to work enough hours to save money for college, so this will be a great help when it comes to enrolling in a private university next year. Coming from a large family of seven children, my parents cannot afford to pay for all of our educations, so I am particularly grateful for this aspect.
