The Cruciality of Failure by Alex - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

I have failed many, many times in my lifetime. I have made promises to myself that have fallen apart as quickly as the average New Year’s Resolution. I have made it through all of these failures by keeping one thing on my mind: “Tomorrow will be better”. If I didn’t accomplish a goal or finish all of the work I set aside for myself, I make myself a vow that I won’t break, to finish what was left over. I have been lectured numerous times about the importance of thinking long term and creating goals accordingly that I won’t back down from. By thinking of a brighter future, my work in the present seems like just a stepping stone, one obstacle on a much longer journey.
As for my academics specifically, I have found that once again, thinking in the long-term future is my greatest drive for motivation. I think about the future opportunities that will open up to me as I progress my education forward. I love the feeling of success and will forever chase it through my studies and into my future career.
A medium that helps me stay focused is listening to music. Depending on my mood or the type of work, many genres can keep me productive. My favorite style is classical music for any type of work. There’s something about hearing early composers’ work played on pianos that bring an uplifting feel and a mood for concentration.
