Dear 2016 Me by Alex - April 2021 Scholarship Essay
Five years ago, I would find myself in middle school; with many friends, and extra curriculars. There was not too much that I felt like I needed to worry about especially not where I would be at the end of my high school career. People always tell you that what you do now matters and we do not always take phrase into consideration.
Life is continually moving at a rapid pace but can at times feel like the days never end. We think that it will all turn out the way it's supposed to when the time comes or someone else will end up doing it for us, but that sadly is not the truth about life unless you have people waiting on you hand and foot.
Looking back now meeting the end of my school career, I would have told myself five years ago that no one is going to reach my goals except for me. I am the only one who can make it happen. I can have all the support and guidance and intelligence in the world but I am still the one who has to put in the effort to achieve my own version of success. No matter the days you feel like it's not worth it or the work won't pay off, I would be there to assure my 2016 year old self that the hard work does pay off. If we waited on everyone to do everything for us, the world would have fallen apart by now. Determination is the key to succeeding.
