The future of education by Alex - May 2020 Scholarship Essay

In fifty years, I think that classrooms will become less important. I’m not suggesting that learning will become obsolete, rather the classrooms will become virtual with less physical presence. With the way that educational institutions have adapted to the Covid-19 pandemic, hosting lectures via zoom and online platforms, I sense that will become the new normal years ahead. Students may also be required to bring their own devices since every college campus offers a computer lab for students to use. Additionally, technology often helps students learn better and comprehend particular material better, so learning virtually is not without its benefits. Because online college courses are already gaining popularity at a rapid rate, in person courses will slowly decrease in overall student body size and students could study from the comfort of their own homes.

Also, the way I see it, education may become more accessible for all. If online education is already incredibly popular and vastly preferred by many students, it will continue to gravitate in that direction. Many people who currently work full-time have difficulties enrolling in particular courses that are taught in person. This will allow those with busy schedules to complete their homework during their time away from work. Overall, I feel as if the current trends in education will continue. More online options, fewer on-campus requirements, and greater accommodations made for those who work full time yet want to seek advanced degrees will be our future and the future of education.
