The Often Overlooked Luxury by Alex - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

Now look, I don't need to go into a huge mining expedition in my brain on why I think having diners at a college campus is “literally” the best thing in college. Or how a college with (insert one major part only for said major here) is the best thing and how anyone outside it is a heathen. That being said, my part of the college experience I'll be most thankful for when I get back to it is the major convenience of having classrooms, dining halls, shops, activity areas like pools and theaters, and natural beauties on a single campus. It'll seem insane to compile all of this into a single essay. But trust me, it's a gift and a luxury to have all of this in one neat location.
Again, it seems unreasonable to make a location of all the college necessities being in one little nifty location as something to be thankful for. However, as a student of a high school that is about 15 minutes by far to get to (roughly 7 miles), I can say that a shop, dining hall, with classrooms and entertainment and even living places in a “smallest town” setting is absolutely luxurious to me! I'd love to be at a college campus, complete with a dining hall I can walk to in about 5 minutes, or see a teacher in 10, with classes so sparsely separated I have time to work or do my own thing in the meantime! And not to mention eat more food if I have the time.
Alright, perhaps it's not too worthy of people’s thankful attitudes towards an aspect of education like this, but you really should be thankful for this! Just imagine, a campus with nowhere near the convenience of, say, USM (University of Southern Maine). Classrooms being half a mile apart, dining halls not even close to the classrooms, either, maybe no dorms. It'd be absolute chaos and people would mock and ridicule its entropy state of the structure. Yet, people take for granted the closeness of everything and how convenient some campuses can be.
It's absolutely astounding how college campuses felt that it would be a neat little thing (and most likely the most logical option) to put everything in a more concentrated space so student and staff had an easy time. Almost like they're thinking we're adults about this! Perhaps it's just me, but I really love this concept. As well, I feel it'll be what I think will be most thankful because of my commuting status, I won't need a car too often cause everything is there, and I'll be able to get help within 5 minutes of me thinking I need help instead of just sending an email. I hope it's not taken for granted, but at the same time, we overlook the small things. It's just fun to point out said small things.
