Freshman year counts more than you think.... by Alex - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
Freshman year is full of anxiety. Not knowing is the hard part. Most freshman are consumed with either social and extra curricular activities, trying to balance everything is really hard, and sometimes for some impossible. Not to mention finding your passion and where you fit in socially. Making new friends or keeping the old is a tough and painful process for most freshman. Usually so painful with so many changes, emotional ups and downs that the homework, studying for test, finals for the first time, comes up too fast. This result is most likely a detriment to your freshman year.
Freshman year, like all years of High School goes really fast. What is not emphasized enough is how important freshman year really is. Most would say it is more important than your senior year. This is not explained enough, that by the time junior or beginning of senior year rolls around, you have your GPA established to apply for colleges. If you don't do great your freshman year, you are out of the gates behind and it is really hard to catch up.
For an incoming freshman, the most important part is grades, grades, grades. A little effort goes a long way and will be much easier in the end.
