If you had unlimited time and money, how would you use what you've learned in school to create a positive impact on the world? by Alessandra - April 2023 Scholarship Essay

In my Robotics class I learned to build a robotic car. Unlike the cars sold in today's market. That can do only two or three commands. I had to create the code to do anything I wanted. I was the brain behind this tin and resin shell for this futuristic car robot. Instead of doing the common tricks that most of my classmates did. I programed it to feed my cats! I had two commands and had to create a loop to do it again in the afternoon. One less chore checked off my list! But let us delve into this simple idea further. If I can add wings and borrow drone technology. I will modify a basket for low load capacity, add a slide lock, and use it to collect all the leftovers from restaurants and deliver it to a soup kitchen or skid row facility.
I will build a landing pad that will allow restaurant staff to open the lower compartment and fill it up with those days’ leftovers. The chamber is mechanically programmed from home base. Like elevator technology. The modified basket will be elevated to the landing pad where the drone will pick up the food and deliver it to the destination. If I just enroll in three restaurants to participate in the program in my city of eighty thousand people. By using just one robotic drone, we can provide food for over twenty-one families! On a larger scale we can roll it out and feed 2143 families in the city of Los Angeles. Imagine if we could invest in just three drones working independently 24 hours a day! My dad said if all the rides share companies would allow three shifts to use the same car with three different drivers. All three drivers would be able to pay for the vehicle early, purchase their own cars, use it for personal use and lower the shared expenses. Making working for this company profitable overall.
In short, using this recently discovered robotic technology we can apply it to anything. This closed loop technology already exists. Self-driving cars are here! And drone delivery is common in Amazon’s rural areas. We need to hurry up and do this before air rights are gobbled up by corporate lawyers and greedy developers prohibiting no fly zones. Just like with all things in life, we try to do good in the world, but someone always comes along and wants to make a dollar!
If I had unlimited time and money, this is how would create a positive impact on the world. Feeding families all around the world!
