Does Not Apply by Alejandro - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

Ahh the infamous gap year. A perfect opportunity for you to, as the cliche goes, "find yourself". Some travel the world(with what money I don't know) and others work until they can find whatever their passion may be. For me, if I were to use a gap year, which presently does not apply to me, it would go a bit differently. To make the most out of my gap year I would try to spend time with family as much as possible.

To begin, the reason I have family on my list is that for me family comes first, always. No matter if other things are going on such as school, work, or friends, I will always try to take care of my family above all else. An example is when my brother was receiving bad grades in spanish, I would ask him what he was struggling on and try to help him understand the concept better so that he can succeed. Also, family has always been there for me even in the toughest of times such as my big move from Southern California to Southern Spain and when my mom went through a depression. So for me, I would try to spend as much time with family as possible doing stuff like hanging out with my cousins or taking my grandparents traveling.

In conclusion, spending time with family is how I would make the most out of my gap year. I believe that everyone should spend time with their family as much as possible before they go off and do their own thing for the rest of their lives. Family is where you’ll find unity, love, and above all else loyalty.
