My Positive Impact as student body president by Alejandro - July 2018 Scholarship Essay

If I were to run for student body president, the one way I would want to positively impact my school is to improve the relationships between students and teachers. Personally, I have seen horrible relationships between the teachers and students at my school. Whenever a student gets a bad grade on a test or quiz, the student will say the teacher hates them instead of going to the teacher for help. Once the student gets into the habit of blaming the teacher for the bad grade, the student will have an excuse for not doing well in that particular class.

I want to improve this relationship between students and teacher because the students and teachers will benefit in their own ways. Once the student becomes friends with a teacher, the student will be more likely to stay after school and ask for help because the student has trust in the teacher. For the teachers, their job will be more rewarding because more students will be getting better grades as a result of asking the teacher for help. By helping the students become successful in the classroom, teachers will feel more satisfied with their job because they are helping the students raise their grades.

The best way for me to improve the relationship between students and teachers is to create a website where teachers can communicate with one another on ways to deal with difficult students or ways to earn students’ trust. Student would also be able to use the website anonymously so they can leave suggestions to teachers on how the teachers can improve the way they teach in class or interact with the students. By including anonymity for the students, the students will be more inclined to leave suggestions because they can speak their mind without having to worry about the teacher knowing who wrote which suggestion.

By improving the relationship between teachers and students, the school will be creating a friendlier environment since there will be no hostility from the students towards their teachers. Creating a hospitable school environment is how I hope to positively impact my school if I were to run for student body president.
