"Unlocking Potential: The Impact of Informal Education on Academic Success" by Aleiyah - June 2024 Scholarship Essay
I realize that informal education has helped me to enhance on my academic performance since it has provided me with other forms of learning of my choice without necessarily limiting me to the classroom. Personal interest for the main language of this country and self-learning; going beyond the topics usually set in the school curriculum. Lectures obtained from online classes and educational tutorials and videos have enabled one to enhance or modify one’s learning experience in order to gain deeper knowledge of different courses.
Besides, I have been able to acquire informal education, which has helped me have the spirit of continuous learning hence having curiosity of what I have not known. Subscribing to educational forums, discussion groups, and social media communities has made it possible for me to attain more exposure with different and new ideas and approve a more critical outlook and problem-solving aptitude.
There is development to mention that earlier, theory to practice has been connected through the means of experiential learning sections. According to projected, internship, volunteer activities, jobs or projects have offered practical experience and pragmatic knowledge in addition to the knowledge gained in class. For instance engaging in service learning initiatives ensured that I was not only applying theoretical knowledge from class lessons but was also practicing what I was learning on engaging service experiences that enriched both the academic knowledge and the practice.
Additionally, self-learning has allowed for social interaction and partnership with people and like-minded professionals. These connections have given way to opportunities for mentorship, co-projects, and gaining insights into different occupations, which in turn has helped in enhancing both education and career in general.
Therefore, informal education has been instrumental in my academic path by creating ways of learning through personal interest, embracing the culture of continuous learning, and gaining practical experience, as well as cultivating relationships throughout and beyond the institution. Apart from being informal, education has diversified the academic achievements that I have garnered in a classic manner, and it has provided me with the tools and attitude for success that I need to constantly evolve in the world today.
