Importance of Literature by Alberto - July 2013 Scholarship Essay
By far the best book that I have ever read for school is Fahrenheit 451. This book is extremely interesting and intruiged me since the very beginning. Another reason why I loved this book was because of the underlying story, the message it was conveying to me and to the rest of the readers. The story takes place in the far future when technology is very advanced. The book is famous for the depiction of fire fighters setting books, and all houses that contain them, ablaze. Everybody in the book does exactly the same thing, almost as if they are robots and unable think for themselves. This society does not allow books nor does it tolerate individuality. Punishment was severe for those who decided to be unique and stand out from society. Now, what had me so stuck and what glued my eyes to the book, was the significance of all these traits in this society. They are trying to destroy all the literature and independent thoughts of those writers so no one can start to think for themselves. Literature is the key to how we all are different and creative in our own ways. Also, books and literature carry ideas and lessons that we all need to learn and know. And above all, literature provides the mind and individual with knowledge and wisdom. This is why Fahrenheit 451 is the best book I read for school. I have learned so much from this text but at the top of it all, I now understand the importance of literature.
