Successful student by Alasia - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
I've been interested in joining the medical field for most of my life. Growing up, I lived in a community where people would avoid going to the hospital because they simply couldn't afford it. This opened my eyes and inspired my pursuit of a nursing degree. I'm hoping to attend nursing school so that in the future, I'll be able to give back to my community and others just like it. I want to collaborate with others in my field and be the advocate for those who are struggling and have no voice.
To achieve my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner, I've enrolled myself in multiple health science courses from my 9th grade year to the present. One of these courses is a clinical study course which will allow me to become a certified nursing assistant by the time I graduate high school. I've also taken a class that has allowed me to become CPR and OSHA certified. Along with this, I have been a proud member of both the HOSA and DECA organization for 2 years. After high school, I plan on attending Lander University and I'm hoping that these accomplishments will give me some of the experience needed to become a successful nursing student.
In my opinion, the definition of a successful nurse is someone who is willing to put others before themselves and love others enough to care for people they may not know just to make sure they get better. Caring for others has always been a characteristic of mine and has grown to be one of my passions. I believe nursing is the perfect career for me because I have the opportunity to incorporate one of my passions into my career. It didn't take long for me to realize that I wanted to be one of those "miracle workers" who seemed to surmount every problem that was hurled their way. I want to be a part of their modern-day superhero force, fighting to improve people's lives while reminding them that it's okay to lean on family.
My education has always been a tremendous part of my life; it has given me a voice when I’ve felt unheard. By going to college, I believe that voice will be amplified. With a college education, I’ll be closer to achieving the dreams I’ve previously mentioned. The experiences I have in college will not only enhance the skills I need to be a nurse, it’ll provide me with new connections and relationships that could last a lifetime. It’ll also be a perfect aid in helping me transfer from my teenage life to adulthood. If selected for this scholarship, I will use it as effectively as possible. I’m a very motivated, ambitious student and this scholarship will be undoubtedly put to good use. In the end, It’ll allow me to learn about how to give back to those who truly need it.
