Study Abroad Providing Global Awareness by Alanna - March 2016 Scholarship Essay

I have a sincere dream to participate in study abroad programs while attending college, but the only issue is the cost. I understand that a study abroad experience enhances a student's ability to accept and understand cultures around the world, but not every student has the budget to spend a term- or a year- in another country. I fully advocate for universities making study abroad required but that would entail more funding to allow such a requirement. This means that most of the cost should be covered by the school or the program that the school may be partnering with. Allowing students to obtain a sense of perspective by visiting another country is essential to well-rounded education, but requiring it will not be possible unless the cost is decreased in some way.

I think that some schools could stand to focus on study abroad, but I also think that not all schools should implement it into their curriculum. International schools, for example, are the best schools to require their students to study abroad, but private schools might not be. Providing the option to experience studying in another country is one of the best things a school can do for their students.
