What I would change by Akirah - September 2023 Scholarship Essay

I’ve graduated from Duncanville High School. As a senior I shared my story with my classmates that I’ve been to three different high schools, because my mom like to move a lot. What I’ve notice differently is how the teachers treated their students. Duncanville is a career high school but spend their money mainly on sports. My last year I’ve notice several classes lack a teacher almost the whole year. I’ve bounce classroom to classroom and you’ll begin to notice, what I like to say, “who is there for the paycheck.” What I mean by that is that several teachers don’t make an effort to teach their students.
If I had the authority I wouldn’t just change it. You can’t change something unless they see the problem. I would find a way to publicly address what’s been happening. I know most school operate the same way Duncanville High School does. Between students we gossip about how well their school is doing athletically but how badly the lessons are. By going public, you’ll start a conversation. A conversation with a lot of opinions that enforce change. Another decision I would make if I had the authority, I would have a team evaluate the student grades every time the grading period ends because their grades reflects the teacher. That how you’ll pick out who is teaching the lessons properly.
