A Dream Classroom is Really a Dream Teacher. by Aiden - July 2020 Scholarship Essay

As a student who has attended public and private school I can give you my insight on my dream classroom. My dream classroom would be large enough to have different learning sections/areas. It also does not have many students. This allows the teacher to spend more time with intervention, direct instruction and building rapport. It also allows students to get to know each other better. The classroom would be organized with a clear schedule and learning routine.
The curriculum being used does not matter as much as how the curriculum is given. I prefer a question/problem to solve. Also having an experiment makes the material more engaging because learning by doing allows us to understand the concept without hours of reading. When that is not available videos or pictures can be used.
The classroom obviously involves the organization of the room and engaging material but mostly my dream classroom is about the teacher. The teacher creates the learning environment that is a safe learning space and where we all feel welcome and challenged. My favorite classrooms were elementary. Yes they were colorful rooms but the teachers were nice. They were strict at times but were still my favorite. In my dream classroom I would have my favorite Kindergarten teacher. She also taught me 7th grade math but I like her in kindergarten better. There is a magic of learning many different and doing projects. In middle school I rarely got to show my learning by turning in a project. My dream classroom at the end of the day is having my dream teacher who would make the best of whatever size classroom she gets, and no matter what curriculum they teach they make the classroom magical. They make it a dream!
