The Magic Ability by Aidan - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
I think the greatest ability that could prepare you for college is the ability to listen. It's unfortunately a rare talent in today's world. Most teens don't even know it's a word that's actually in the dictionary, or if they do, they don't know how to look up the definition.
Listening is very beneficial to the learning process. You could discover that The American Revolution did actually happen, or that Abraham Lincoln was the sixteenth president and not a fictional character. You could find the difference between their, there, and they're! There are so many magical things to learn but you can only find them out if you open your ears and let your brain store that precious treasure called knowledge.
Most of us are convinced we already know everything, which makes college hard for us. We don't like to be proven wrong, it's just teenage instinct. I'm not one of those people though. I think, that if I don't learn something everyday, I'm not living, and most definitely am no listening. To learn as much as I could, I started at a young age befriending my elders and listening to their stories.
Listening allows us to find new things, keep the trust of our teachers, parents, and peers. I strongly believe it is the best tool for college, especially since it doesn't cost a single penny.
