Helping Students Become Successful by Aida - September 2019 Scholarship Essay

If I could add an extracurricular activity to a high school it would be recess/nap time. Students need some time to unwind and rest their state of mind in the middle of their school day. They need to be taken out of the environment they spend seven hours or more a day in and able to relax.
Students would be able to go outside to their football, soccer, or baseball field and have fun. They could play some sports or just sit in the grass and relax and be away from the school and classrooms. Students need breaks from their classes and a change in scenery every once in a while. They need to be able to relax and reset their mind and get ready for the rest of their day at school. This would help students get through the hump of their second half the day. They're usually tired and ready to go home, but we were to give them a break and reset their minds they would become more engaged in the classroom.
Some may wanted to reset their minds by taking a nap and that could be another option besides going outside and playing around with friends. The school could take a few classrooms, empty them out, put in mats and allow students to take a nap. Students wake up very early for school and sometimes have after school jobs or activities so they won't get a chance to unwind until they get home from it all. The nap would provide them with the extra sleep all teenagers need and let them rest their minds as well and be ready for the rest of the day.
My extracurricular activity would be very beneficial to all the students and the teachers as well. This could give teachers extra time for lesson plans, grade papers, or just be able to relax and get ready for the rest of their day. The students focus would increase throughout the days and weeks and will help boost their grades and participation in the classroom. Test scores would go up as students are able to engage more with a mental reset.
This extracurricular should be instilled in every high school. All students and teachers around the nation would be impacted positively by this new activity we would instill in the middle of the school day.
