The Princesses in Me by Adyseb - April 2014 Scholarship Essay

As a little girl, I grew up wishing to be a beautiful princess like the ones in the books that my mother read to me as a child. She read about the beautiful long gowns, glass slippers, a beast who fell in love, a sleeping beauty who woke to find her one true love, and one very poisonous apple. Through the years, many things I enjoyed as a child has quickly changed from Barbie and Ken to playing sports and spending more of my free time with family and friends. When I look back on my childhood, there are a few things that will always be close to my heart. Those things are princesses.

When I was younger, I wanted to dress sophisticated the way the princesses did in the stories. I wanted to dance at the ball with all my friends and family dancing with me. I also wanted an Esmirelda like Cinderella to help my dreams come true. I wanted my Prince Charming, who at the time was my father, to dance with me to my favorite song. As an eighteen year old whom is about to graduate, I still want the same things that I did as child. I still love getting dressed up and dancing with friends and family. I even have my own personal Esmirleda; my mom. And as for my Prince Charming, he will always be my father. One day I will leave to marry my true Prince Charming, and my father will get to dance with me to my favorite song like I always wanted him to do.

I do not just have one character from one book that has influenced me. I have several characters from different books that have shaped my personality today. I want to have that one true love that Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and Belle had. I want to be sophisticated the way they always were. I also always want to do the right thing, not only for myself, but for others as well.
