Business Class: Education's Missing Link by Adrienne - June 2025 Scholarship Essay

In the world of success, academics are not enough. Students need a class that will prepare them for an adult job. There's one class that could bridge the gap between education and real life: business. Business is one class that could bring together what is taught in school and what we need in reality. Such insights are helpful to any student, whether they plan to manage a business department, start teaching, or enter the entrepreneurial world. With solid business skills, it is simpler to write professional emails and present in front of a group of individuals, which is needed in almost every job. Most importantly, by taking these classes, students gain the ability to think critically, communicate clearly, and advocate for themselves.
Observing my peers taught me that having lack of business knowledge adds to someone’s challenges. I’ve noticed people get stuck when introductions come into play. They ask questions like, “Tell me about yourself?” “What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?” or “What are your soft skills or hard skills?”. Such knowledge is crucial in the workplace now. In addition, people like me with ADHD will benefit from these skills more than others. One of the things that comes with ADHD is short-term memory loss and easily losing focus, even while people are talking. I know that well-structured lessons and additional practices are not just useful but can help every student become more independent. Providing business education in schools would equip many learners with the right strategies to handle problems, represent themselves, and succeed in their jobs.
Believing that only entrepreneurs enroll in business courses is an old point of view. All people in different jobs need the principles of commerce, which means nurses protect patients’ records, artists set up contracts, and advocates demonstrate their teamwork. While serving on the committee, my task is to make connections, persuade people, and work on initiatives besides sharing my views. Every student should get taught these skills as basic knowledge and not as something they may choose.
