The Best Teacher by Adrienne - July 2014 Scholarship Essay

I am excited to talk about the teacher who most inspired me throughout my entire school career. I immediately knew that my third grade teacher Ms. Donna Chapman, the best teacher in the world, would be the perfect candidate. At first I was hesitant to write this because I wasn’t sure if I could capture the character of such an amazing woman in a simple essay. Then I realized that no matter what I thought I owed it to her to at least try because she deserves to be honored for making such an impact on my life.

She is the teacher that I think about when school gets too stressful and I need a little push to keep striving forward. I’ll never forget the first day that I walked into your classroom and she said, “Hi, I’m Ms. Donna.” I remember thinking right then and there that she was going to be different from all of my past teachers because never before had an academic teacher allow me to call them by their first name. I also remember being really shy and nervous about third grade, but she made me feel like I meant something to her, like one of your own. I could not wait to get to her class every day because it was always an adventure. She taught with enthusiasm and spontaneity. I had so much fun learning from her because she took the time to really get to know her students. She knew my strengths and my weakness which made it easy for her to pinpoint what I needed to be as successful as I could be. She was the first teacher to really make me feel like my education meant as much to her as it did to me. She showed me that there are people in the world who are passionate about their job. She made learning fun and enjoyable which inspired me to want to continue to learn and be successful in school. As a result, I graduated from high school with honors.

Now that I am going to college and had to write this essay, it made me reflect on all my years of school and realized that she was the person that was the inspirational force behind my success. I will forever remember how “Ms. Donna’s class” encouraged me to be the best I could be and I will always love her for that.
